ROSA

The purpose is to express the importance of representation in editorial magazines and showcase the intergenerational women and families of my own to produce a magazine demonstrating a visual representation of an inclusive society.

I hope for my magazine to have people feel confident, empowered, encouraged, and bold. To inspire and influence future designers to develop and utilize different visual elements to produce a story and message through imagery, color, and layouts. Along with the visual elements, I have incorporated DNA design in the magazine. During my process, I have grown to incorporate DNA design, experimental design, photography, color, and typography through a journalistic aesthetic.

With my visual research and essays, I have written about the importance of inclusive spaces and to continue to challenge editorial magazine spaces. In addition to presenting the many iconic magazine covers published by Harper Bazzar to show the evolution of fashion.

Process

I developed handmade pieces for the magazine to create contrast with the 2-dimensional photographs. Along with the handcrafted details, I have searched for typefaces created by Latinx typographers and graphic designers to integrate my DNA through type.
