Beginning of Social Distance

Artist Statement: It was an easy transition taking photos through a screen as I grew up watching the world through television. Since, we now live in a new-media dominated age, we are watching the world through technology at this particular point in time. We can only connect with each other using video and cannot be physically be together due to the social distance restrictions of COVID-19. Today, this isolating affect is the new reality that feels surreal. With modern technology, we can simulate occupation in the same space. By utilizing my computer screen, I capture friends and family to grab the only moments of intimacy possible. Through the reference of old static television, I am redefining the language of human connection, technology and photography. My photographs capture that surreal effect of having to connect through the screen as a sense of belonging and being together.
